Fake Axe Fight Results in Real Arrest, Police Say

Northeast Philadelphia man charged with aggravated assault following Main Street fight.

Following an early-morning brawl Sunday on Main Street, Philadelphia Police said they arrested one man and charged him with aggravated assault.

Daniel Posner, 31, was arrested Oct. 28 at 2:26 a.m. following a fight at 4400 Main St., police spokesperson Officer Jillian Russell said. He faces five assault charges, court records indicate.

Russell said Posner and another man were involved in a fight with three other males in Manayunk. Posner allegedly struck the men with a prop axe, in addition to punching them in the face, she said.

Two of the males were treated at Albert Einstein Hospital as they were bleeding from the head, where they were later released.

Police arrested Posner, Russell said, but added there was no record of another arrest.

Some residents posted sightings of 12-13 squad cars descending on Main Street to break up the five-man fight. Russell couldn't confirm a specific number of officers committed to breaking up the fight, but she said it was significant.

Posner, from Northeast Philadelphia, faced a preliminary arraignment hearing Oct. 29 in Municipal Court. He is charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy of aggravated assault, possession of a instrument of crime with intent, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person

Arraignment Court Magistrate Sheila M. Bedford set bail at $10,000, which Posner posted 10 percent of that day and was released. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 15.

I think Chemistry used to be where Mad River is now. They had problems with fighting then, too.

To be fair to Mad River, this happened at the other end of Main Street.
