Driver Crashes Car Into Wine & Spirits Store

The early evening accident resulted in major damage to the storefront.

An as-yet-unidentified driver in a teal Mustang convertible drove his car up over the curb and into the front of the Wine and Spirits store on Ridge Pike on Thursday afternoon.

There was very visible damage to the front of the store to the left of the exit door. Employees stood outside with police, some looking shaken.

Limerick Police Sergeant Robert Matalavage told Patch that no one was injured in the accident.

"Luckily they were working the other register [further from the door]," Matalavage said.

However, the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. "He was clearly impaired when we got here," Matalavage said. "There was a strong odor of alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests."

The driver was transported to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for blood testing. Limerick Fire Department was also on scene. Limerick Towing and Recovery removed the car from the premises.

To state the obvious, how ironic is a drunk crashing into a liquor store?

According to the US Department of Transportation, 31% of traffic deaths involve alcohol and 18% of all traffic deaths involve a drug other than alcohol. This is a staggering number. If you think that you, a family member, or close relative is struggling with drugs or alcohol, many health insurance programs will pay for counseling. If not, you can contact the Montgomery County Drug and Alcohol Program to find a program suitable for your situation and finances (www.montcopa.org). James McCarthy, Esquire www.mccarthymccarthy.com

I'm glad no one was hurt, so that I can laugh at the idea of this drunk fool thinking he was going to be sold liquor in that state.

You really can't make this stuff up. lol Fortunately the driver was caught before he could have done damage to themselves or an innocent victim.
