Holiday Season Kicks Off with Santa, Mummers

Chestnut Hill's annual Circle of Trees and Lights event will be Nov. 23. This will be its first year at the Woodmere.

Chestnut Hill's annual Circle of Trees and Lights will kick of the holiday season at the Woodmere Art Museum on Saturday, Nov. 23, with visits by the Mummers, elves and carolers from Norwood-Fontbonne Academy and Santa himself.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. at The Woodmere Art Museum, 9201 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia. Santa will arrive by firetruck at about 6 p.m.

The Chestnut Hill Business Association’s Circle of Trees and Lights is an annual event that officially opens the community’s holiday season. This is the first year that the event will take place at Woodmere Art Museum. Before and after ceremony—which will light up the museum, Woodmere’s holiday tree, a menorah and a circle of trees on the museum lawn—visitors can be among the first to view Christmas Past in the Pennsylvania German Tradition, an exhibit of traditional toys and ornaments from the collection of the Germantown Historical Society.

Guests will also be able to enjoy artmaking activities and refreshments including cookies, hot chocolate and cider.

Families are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to a charity for underprivileged children.
