New numbers released Monday by the Centers for Disease Controlshow that Americans are living longer than ever.
The average American lifespan is now 78.7 years, U.S. News and World Report says, and a child born in 2009 can expect to live to be 78.5 years. That’s an increase of 0.4 years of life expectancy over a child born in 2008.
Data from 2008 put the average life expectancy for males at 75.6 years; it rose to 75 years by 2009. Females saw similar gains, with increase from 80.6 to 80.9 years.
