Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps to do FREE performance

Historic RittenhouseTown, a National Historic Landmark District, in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, will host a midday performance by the Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps, July 17, 2013 beginning at 11AM.  This event is free and the public is encouraged to come.

The acclaimed Michigan based Corp is made up of 40 to 50 students ranging from ages 12 –
18. The group tours the United States,
performing at parades, historical and patriotic celebrations, concerts,
cultural affairs, and other civic events.

Historic RittenhouseTown was chosen as a unique educational opportunity for the young performers.  As the only National Historic Landmark District within the expansive Fairmount Park, RittenhouseTown is home to the first paper mill in British North America built by the Rittenhouse family in 1690. During their visit the PFDC students and public will learn soldier fare prepared in the RittenhouseTown 1725 Bake House. There will be papermaking demonstration in the Barn Studio, and the public is encouraged to watch.

The public is invited to meet Corp members at 11AM and learn about their instruments, clothing and the tradition of fife & drum corps. At 12 Noon the Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps will perform.  Following, soft pretzels, hot dogs, drinks and cookies will be for sale.  All proceeds benefit the ongoing educational program at Historic RittenhouseTown.
NOTE: no parking will be permitted inside the Village for the July 17 event.  There is limited parking along southbound Lincoln Drive and along Wissahickon Ave (between Walnut Lane and Lincoln Drive) by the Historic RittenhouseTown entrance. More extensive parking  can be found around Thomas Mansion – 6245 Wissahickon Avenue. Follow the signs and a short walk through the park will take you to the Village.
