FOW Crew Leader Training
It's back-to-school for Friends of the
Wissahickon (FOW) volunteers. FOW is offering a Crew Leader Training workshop
on Saturday, August 24, 2013. This workshops is appropriate for those
currently training to be FOW Crew Leaders and those who are interested in
learning about the program.
"FOW Volunteer Crew Leaders are
experienced volunteers skilled in leading volunteer groups in a park setting
and committed to FOW’s mission of habitat protection in Wissahickon Valley
Park," according to FOW Outreach Manager Sarah Marley. "They are also
experts in trail building or habitat restoration and have a desire to share
their knowledge and expertise with others."
Those
interested in attending should meet at the Hermits Lane Trailhead at 9 a.m. on
August 24. The workshop ends at 1 p.m. The workshop will include a hands-on
seminar regarding trail maintenance, construction, and designation. Proper tool
use, care, and safety precautions will be discussed, along with a conversation
on habitat restoration and concerns for ecological conditions. Those attending
will also learn about FOW's Sustainable Trails Initiative and its role as a
catalyst for a large part of the work FOW undertakes in Wissahickon Valley
Park.
