Unsettled Weather Later This Week

A tropical storm may flirt with our area later this week.

As Tropical Storm Harvey drops nearly 10 inches of rain over parts of Mexico our area has our eyes on what will be known as Tropical Storm Irene which is building strength in the Eastern Caribbean and may have its sights on our region this weekend.

According to the National Hurricane Center, “There is a high chance of 80% that this system will become a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.” The track of this storm will have to be monitored closely to determine which location along the United States coast may be at risk.

The week will begin with a mixture of clouds and sun. The temperature will be in the mid 80s. There may be an early shower but this should clear out of our area by approximately 6 a.m. The humidity levels will be relatively low so it should feel comfortable outside. The wind may gust up to near 28 mph throughout the day.

On Tuesday, a high pressure system will settle in over our region keeping all moisture and clouds blocked out early on. The sun will then give way to clouds later on in the day. Temperatures will be in the lower 80s as the low humidity continues.

By mid-week, we will see mostly sunny skies throughout our area. The temperatures should reach the mid 80s with winds gusting to near 18 mph. Clouds will roll into the area overnight.

On Thursday, there will be a mixture of clouds and sun. The temperatures will reach the high 80s but when you factor in the higher humidity levels, it should feel as though it is 95 degrees outside. There is the chance of a late afternoon shower or thunderstorm.

Clouds will dominate the sky on Friday with temperatures in the mid 80s. The high humidity will continue making it feel like 93 degrees outside. Once again, there is the chance of an afternoon shower.

The weekend will begin with mostly cloudy skies and some sun on Saturday. The temperatures should remain in the mid 80s with the chance of a late shower or thunderstorm. The Global Forecast System is currently showing heavy rain in the area Sunday night into Monday due to a tropical storm.  It should leave our area around midnight on Monday.

There is still plenty of time for the track of the tropical storm to shift direction so make sure you monitor this event as the week progresses.
