Summer Heat Wave Continues Through Friday

The barrage of sizzling temperatures will subside somewhat this week, but the long-lasting summer heat-wave should continue through at least Friday.

August will begin with hot temperatures in the mid-90s. There will be partly sunny skies with plenty of humid air around that may spark an afternoon shower or thunderstorm so be sure to have your umbrella handy.

On Tuesday, we will see mostly sunny skies with hot temperatures in the low 90s. The wind may gust up to near 20 mph.

By midweek, the temperature should once again cross the 90 degree mark. There will be partly sunny skies with increasing humidity later in the day. Along with the higher humidity comes the threat of another late day shower or thunderstorm.

The weekend will begin with clouds throughout the day. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s with a chance for thunderstorms during the day and again during the evening hours. If the high temperature for the day does not cross the 90 degree mark then the heat wave will be over until we receive 3 more consecutive 90 degree days.

On Sunday, there will be a mixture of clouds and sun with temperatures making their way to the low 90s with another chance of some thunderstorms.

Our area has been engulfed by a mid-summer heat wave but there have been some other record breaking weather events throughout the county. Texas is currently in the midst of their worst drought ever recorded since record keeping began 116 years ago. Texas could use some of the rain Chicago has received lately. Last Saturday brought 8.2 inches of rain to Chicago making it the rainiest 24 hour period since 1871.

As hurricane season is in full swing, the tropics are beginning to intensify. There is a large surface low over the Atlantic Ocean which is expected to strengthen as it moves in the direction of Puerto Rico. There is the chance that this storm might affect the Atlantic Coast of the United States so this storm is worth watching as it further develops.
