NWS: Tornado Watch for Philadelphia

The watch is expected to last until 8 p.m.

A tornado watch is now in effect for Philadelphia and is expected to last until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued the watch, which is also in effect for 10 Pennsylvania counties throughout the region.

"A hot and very humid air mass covers the area this afternoon," an alert from the weather service read. "These conditions are favorable for the development of afternoon thunderstorms.

"Some of these storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts ... large hail and possibly a tornado as they develop and intensify," the alert continued.

The tornado watch was issued at 1 p.m. An  is already in effect and is expected to last until 8 p.m.
