Great Escapes: Cooking Classes

Have a delicious time at these area cooking classes.

Do you burn toast? Over-boil spaghetti? Make your families groan when you squelch a heaping mass of…well, something mushy and unrecognizable on your dinner table?

Don’t fret. Now you, your kids and the whole family can become chef extraordinaires (or at least make some tasty dinners) with these area cooking classes.

Love Your Fruits & Vegetables - Though your kids may have missed the Love Your Fruits and Vegetables in Roxborough, there are still a bunch of wild and forthcoming kids’ cooking classes in a number of locations, including Ambler and Plymouth Meeting. Watch your children find a new appreciation for the greens they used to abhor, and have some time to yourself while they learn to bake cookies and sample new and exotic eats. And if you’re looking for a unique birthday party, LYFVE offers birthday party packages for younger age groups.

Viking – But if you’re looking for a chance to test your own mettle in the kitchen, head on over to Bryn Mawr for a lesson at the Viking Cooking School. With classic classes like One-Day Italian Culinary Basics, you’ll quickly grasp those slicing, dicing and searing skills you’ve been missing. Other classes like Baby Cakes will leave your mouth-watering even as you leave the kitchen. You can learn hands on practices through a series session or just sign up for a one-class taste. And though adult classes are for folks 16 and older, there are kids and teen classes for the whole family.

La Cucina at the Market – If you’re looking for a cooking class that doubles as a real getaway, head on down to the Reading Terminal Market in the heart of Philadelphia for La Cucina at the Market, a section of the market dedicated to food demonstrations and cooking classes of all levels. Proprietor Anna Maria Florio masterminded these classes back in 2007, and they have been well-received since. Learn to make your own homemade pasta or take yourself out on a real date with the Date Night: An Enchanted Evening for Two as you make and eat a full meal with your loved one. There’s a number of varied classes running all through the end of summer and the fall, so pick what’s right for you.
