With a plethora of unique boutiques, salons, stores and restaurants at your fingertips during the day to day, it can sometimes be difficult to fill a specific need with all of your options. But don’t get overwhelmed. With the abundance of niche stops and novelty stores, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for if you know where to look. Here are a handful of hobby shops and specialty stores that may make your next shopping trip much less hectic, and give you somewhere neat and interesting to visit during a rainy afternoon.

1. Mermaid Lane Studios – A gem amongst art studios, Mermaid Lane Studios is a spot to see. The studio’s proprietor travels far and wide searching through libraries, museums, historical societies and dozens of other places interesting places on the search for amazing art. From vintage Harley Davidson advertisements to old photographs of the public transit systems of the East Coast, this work is unique and incredible.

3. The Cheese Shop The Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop has existed for 45 years and continues to serve wonderful cheeses and other delectable delights to the community. Whether it’s caviar, treats, or, you guessed it, cheeses of all textures and flavors, the Cheese Shop will be there for you, deliciousness in hand.

4. – Tucked right off Germantown Avenue, this adorable candy shop takes you back decades to the days of specialized chocolates and candy you only see on old television shows anymore. Zipf’s has the feel and style of a small town candy store, and whether you want truffles or chocolate in the shape of fun and exciting animals and bugs and any kind of gummy you could ever hope for, this is the store for you.
