Great Escape: Dog Parks

Take man's best friend on a great walk.

Summertime is the favorite season of many, and you can be that your dog is on that list. It’s the perfect time to really get some sun with your best friend, and your pup will love you if you extend your trips from around the block to a nearby park. The good news is that there are plenty of dog-walking parks and trails in this section of the city, so grab your leash (and make sure you do – the city is citing for unleashed dogs) and take your dog for a walk. And make sure you clean up!

Schuylkill River Trail – The Schuylkill River Trail is a multi-use trail that runs through the art museum area and up through Manayunk. Your dog will love you as you traverse the grassy trails and take in the woodsy side of Philadelphia.

Wissahickon Valley Park – Whether you want to take your dog to fish, swim, run, hike or bike, there is a wealth of fun waiting to be had with your dog on the Wissahickon Valley Park. Considering you will cross paths from time to time with an avid rider on horseback, your favorite furball will have a blast.

Pretzel Park – The Friends of Pretzel Park have cultivated a great park for those looking to spend the summer evening with their dogs.  The park has a playground, a number of benches and a separate dog park, all operate by the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. Formally known as Manayunk Park, Pretzel Park is a great spot for you and your four-legged companions.

Pastorious Park – Tucked away in the center Chestnut Hill is Pastorious Park. With a ton (you know, relatively to the city) of green space and plenty of room for your dog to run, Pastorius Park is a great place to start your day with a morning walk or spend a relaxing evening. And this park is also home to the area’s summertime concert series.
