Germantown Avenue Repaving Underway

Several blocks of Germantown Avenue, between Rex Avenue and West Bells Mill Road, are undergoing roadwork.

Paving on Germantown Avenue is well underway, between the 8700 block and the 9200 block.

In front of on May 23, crews were at work laying asphalt and cars were delegated to the parking lanes as they passed through. The work was originally scheduled for May 16-20, but weather interfered with the plans of the Philadelphia Streets Department.

June Cantor, a spokeswoman for the Streets Department, said she can’t say when the work will be done exactly.

“Sometime this week, as long as the rain doesn’t deter them from doing the work,” Cantor said.

Until the work is done, there will be no parking on those blocks of Germantown Avenue between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Cars parked along those zones will be towed, according to a release from the department. If a car is towed, residents are directed to contact the 14th District police to determine where the car was taken.

The department also suggests residents try to find an alternate route to avoid the roadwork, to minimize congestion.
