Flash Flood Warning Extended

The National Weather Service extended the warning until 9 p.m. Sunday

The National Weather Service extended its flash flood warning for Philadelphia and surrounding counties from 11:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Rapidly developing flooding is occurring, the service stated, adding that early Sunday morning the radar showed a wide area of showers and thunderstorms moving into the region. Some areas may see an additional one to two-inches of rain.

Flooding of roadways, low lying areas and small streams can be expected, the service continued, adding that most flood-related deaths occur in cars.

People should not attempt to cross water-covered bridges, dips or low water crossings and should never try to cross a flowing stream on foot. If a road is flooded, a driver should turn around and move to higher ground.

A flash flood watch, that was issued Saturday, is still in effect until 6 a.m. Monday.
