Weekend Planner: Music, Music Everywhere

Get out and hear some live music all over Northwest Philadelphia this weekend!

XPN Kids Corner Concert:  Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band

Where/When: Azalea Meadow in , 100 E. Northwestern Avenue, on Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm, with children’s craft activity at 5:30pm (make your own musical instrument).

Why Go: Get your blankets and picnic baskets ready for Morris Arboretum’s annual outdoor summer concert series.  All concerts take place outdoors in the Morris Arboretum’s beautiful Azalea Meadow. Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band has won 14 national awards for excellence in children’s entertainment including a Parents’ Choice Recommendation and best song for children from the Independent Music Awards.

Pricing: Charges are assessed per vehicle entering the grounds after 4pm. Morris Arboretum member cars are free; nonmember cars will be charged a $30 parking fee in lieu of per person admission fees. Non-member fees for those arriving on foot, on bike, or with SEPTA on concert nights after 4pm: $5.00 per individual, 3 years of age and up. No other coupons or discounts apply. Members who walk, bike or take SEPTA will not be charged a fee.

Summer Jazz on Fridays

Where/When: , 10 W. Gravers Lane; Friday evening until 8pm

Why Go: The Little Treehouse is offering evening jazz as a way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. A perfect accompaniment to warm evening weather, Treehouse Jazz will delight those looking to take advantage of the longer evening hours. Together with the new barbeque offerings, this will be a great way for parents – and non parents too – to unwind after the working week. BYOB restaurant. This week’s music will be provided by Maplewood Music.

Where/When: Germantown Avenue, between Sedgwick and Mt. Airy, on Thursday from 6-10pm

Why Go: Experience the in your own backyard as the roving outdoor street fair celebrating the city’s diverse array of restaurants and gourmet food trucks comes to Mt. Airy. In addition to a wide range of food options, come out and hear music by NWX, UCC Royal Brass Band, Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble and Doc Gibbs and His Band.

Where/When: High Point Café at Allens Lane Station, 7210 Cresheim Road, on Sunday from 10am-4pm

Why Go: Celebrate local crafts and urban farmers in the first weekly summer street fair in Mt. Airy! Live music this week and each first Sunday through October.

Where/When: Crossroads Coffee House, 6156 Ridge Ave, on Friday from 7-10pm

Why Go: Saint Mad is (probably) Philadelphia’s only trumpet-euphonium-guitar-keyboard band. Their acoustic pop draws from many genres and features a unique vocal and instrumental style.

Where/When: The Grape Room, 105 Grape St., on Friday. Doors open at 7:30pm; show at 8pm.

Why Go: Come out for an eclectic evening of indie/folk rock, rock, and acoustic rock music.
