XPN Kids Corner Concert:  Yosi and the Superdads

Where/When: , 100 E. Northwestern Avenue, on Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm, with children’s craft activity at 5:30pm (make your own musical instrument).

Why Go: Get your blankets and picnic baskets ready for Morris Arboretum’s annual outdoor summer concert series.  All concerts take place outdoors in the Morris Arboretum’s beautiful Azalea Meadow. Yosi & The Superdads present a lively & humorous concert for the entire family, featuring songs from Yosi’s multi-award-winning CDs, including his latest “Super Kids Rock”!

Pricing: Charges are assessed per vehicle entering the grounds after 4pm. Morris Arboretum member cars are free; nonmember cars will be charged a $30 parking fee in lieu of per person admission fees. Non-member fees for those arriving on foot, on bike, or with SEPTA on concert nights after 4pm: $5.00 per individual, 3 years of age and up. No other coupons or discounts apply. Members who walk, bike or take SEPTA will not be charged a fee.

Summer Jazz on Fridays

Where/When: , 10 W. Gravers Lane; Friday evening until 8pm

Why Go: The Little Treehouse is offering evening jazz as a way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. A perfect accompaniment to warm evening weather, Treehouse Jazz will delight those looking to take advantage of the longer evening hours. Together with the new barbeque offerings, this will be a great way for parents – and non parents too – to unwind after the working week. BYOB restaurant. This week Maplewood Music Studio presents Jeff Torchon on piano.

Moonlight Movies at Lovett Library

Where/When: Lovett Library, 6945 Germantown Ave (in the garden), on Friday from 8:30-11pm. Seating on the Green begins at 8pm.

Why Go: See E.T. in a summer outdoor setting. Provide your own folding chairs and blankets. The Trolley Car Diner will be vending some snacks and will donate a percentage to the Lovett Memorial Library.

Wyck House Farmer’s Market

Where/When: Wyck Home Farm, 6026 Germantown Ave, on Friday from 2-6pm

Why Go: Coordinated in partnership with The Food Trust, the market runs every Friday afternoon from May through November.  In addition to purchasing Wyck's very own all-natural eggs and chemical-free produce, neighbors can also find produce, baked goods, canned goods, eggs and whole chickens from Amos Fisher of Buckview Produce.  Customers can use food stamps and the $5 vouchers distributed through the federally funded Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The market is also a great place to try some unusual heirloom vegetables and swap recipes.

An Evening of “Sheer Elegance”

Where/When: St David’s Episcopal Church, St. David's & DuPont Streets, on Saturday at 8 pm.

Why Go: Listen to some smooth Motown sound at the oldest church in Manayunk. “Sheer Elegance” was formed in 2000 and consists of members Claude Finger, LeRoy Taylor, and Shirley Jackson.  The group’s mission is to rekindle the laid back habit of enjoying great music, reminiscent of old school grooves, in a relaxed atmosphere.

Family Paddling at the Schuylkill Center

Where/When: Schuylkill Center, 8480 Hagy's Mill Road, on Saturday from 9am-12pm.

Why Go: Learn the basics of paddling a canoe and enjoy working together to steer in the right direction! You'll also learn what to do with capsized boats and how to make sure you and your family are prepared for a fun outing on the water. All safety and paddling equipment is provided. We'll hike to The Center's Wind Dance Pond for on water instruction. Please be prepared to get wet!
