Why Go: Kick off this year’s growing season and celebrate local vendors and farmers with grilling and live music. Weavers Way Mt. Airy will also be offering a large selection of great, locally grown plants from Didden’s Greenhouses.

Philadelphia On Parade Family Arts Festival

Where/When: Mann Center for the Performing Arts, 5201 Parkside Ave, Saturday from 11am-6pm

Why Go: The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. with a Mardi Gras-style parade, complete with a jazz brass band. Featuring more than 1,000 performers, this first-time event will put the spotlight on the diversity of world music with a line-up that includes everything from classical, gospel, funk and swing to Asian-inspired rock, jazz, blues, African dance and drum and even an appearance by PBS Kids’ favorite RAGGS and their “Live Dance” party. Artists and acts are scheduled across five stages throughout the Mann’s campus in Fairmount Park, with performances ranging from 15 to 30 minutes each. In addition to music, the CIGNA Children’s Pavilion will feature storytellers, jugglers, balloon artists, and demonstrations for guests to try jump roping, Irish dance and Chinese lion dancing. There will also be arts and crafts stations for little hands, face painters and plenty of fun festival foods and concessions. Families are welcome to bring picnics to enjoy.

Why Go:  Get a professional opinion of the value of your possession while benefiting the Chestnut Hill Historical Society --  art, prints, antiques, and musical instruments.
