Robertson's Flowers: The Go-To Florist for Arrangements and Gifts

With Valentines Day around the corner and the weather warming up, the vibrant and joyful aura of Robertson's is the perfect place for shopping.

Robertson’s Flowers provides the Chestnut Hill Community with the joy of spring, love of color and welcoming service.

What now serves as the flagship location for Robertson’s–the storefront at 8501 Germantown Avenue–was founded in Chestnut Hill 82 years ago. The family service that helped launch the company hasn’t been lost over time. Family engagement has played a major role in company development since its founding.

Store Manager Chloe Condon spoke highly of the owners and Robertson’s staff during an interview at the shop Friday afternoon.

“The family is very involved with day to day business,"she said. “They’re from the community and they love Chestnut Hill.”

Their love for the neighborhood extends beyond staff acknowledgement. Clearly, Robertson’s serves nothing but the best to the Chestnut Hill and surrounding communities.

Sales Associate Jara Stamler wrapped a bouquet while discussing the grand selection of flowers available for customers. Patrons can either select from Robertson’s plethora of prearranged flower displays, which are available with and without vases, or create their own arrangement from the single-stemmed selection.

Stamler commented on how texture plays a crucial role in her creative inspiration. “It’s an art," Stamler said. “You get to have fun.”

Stamler suggested some flowers with particularly desired textures including the Tiger Paw, a unique yellow and brownish flower with interesting curls and twists.

She also mentioned some of Robertson’s exotic flowers, commenting on how fun they are to work with. Stamler showcased the store’s selection of orchids, along with other less exotic but equally beautiful flowers.

While their floral selection is beyond noteworthy, Robertson’s is known for their European style hand-tied bouquets. Condon explained that bouquets that are wrapped as such are made “to be easily dropped into a vase.”

Robertson’s staff handles their bouquets and customers with only the best of care. Customers aren’t expected to know exactly what they want. The staff appreciates the challenge of piecing together arrangements and have useful theme and color scheme ideas to assemble the perfect gift.

The creativity and welcoming attitude of the Robertson’s staff achieves even the highest of tasks and requests. Stamler recalled receiving a phone call for a Philadelphia hotel room expecting Aretha Franklin as a weekend guest.

Robertson’s arranged her weekend stay bouquets and continues to reach out to other famous families like the Rooney’s, who own the Pittsburgh Steelers. In response to the store’s widespread achievement, Stamler said, “We’re known all over the city. When people want the best, they come to us.”

Though Robertson’s specializes in floral arrangements, earning them their "Best of Philly" 2009 award, the Chestnut Hill location also sells gift sets and accessories for the scarf and bag enthusiast.

Condon identified some of the stores newest additions and best-selling gifts.

“We sell home décor pieces too,” Condon said.

The store’s centerpiece and pride of their décor line includes a modern and chic Philadelphia sign that is unique to the Chestnut Hill store. Better yet, the store meshes modern décor with floral arrangements. Condon mentioned that such glass displays have an earthy appeal, with “flowers that live longer than the traditional display.”

The vibrant nature of the store stretched to more than the flower selection. Robertson’s staff was especially helpful, well versed in the field, and delightfully creative. Walking through the store was a breath of spring refreshment the winter months had so effectively removed from thought.

Condon agreed saying, “we’ve had a lot of people that walk the avenue come in just to smell the flowers … it’s that hint of spring everyone needs.”

Whether stopping in for the reminder of warmer months, to pick out a bouquet for that special someone, or find a unique gift for a friend, Robertson’s is a must go.
