Reader Poll: Would a Rita's Be Good for Chestnut Hill?

A principle agreement has been reached between the management of Chestnut Hill Plaza and a franchise owner.

In some places, the opening of Rita's Water Ice each year is looked forward to as equally as the first blooming flowers to signal the beginning of spring.

In Chestnut Hill, however, where chain stores do not enter easily into the business district, will a Rita's Water Ice fit in, and will it be good for the area?

Franchise owner John Thain, a Chestnut Hill resident, is hoping to bring the franchise to Chestnut Hill Plaza, 7630 Germantown Avenue.

"Chestnut Hill is a a top choice. This will bring families, not staying out late or abusing people’s property, but having a good time, not creating havoc in the community. This is an outstanding location," Thain said to the Development Review Committee.
