Owen's Antiques to Reopen on Friday

The Mt. Airy antique store has some changes planned for its future.

Changes are coming to Owen's Antiques.

The Germantown Avenue shop is having its grand re-opening on Friday, October 5th, and will be selling off part of its inventory to make room for additional new pieces.

According to store manager Hertis Smithey, what is starting on the 5th is only the beginning of a long-term  re-imaging of what the antique store can offer.

"Furniture was the first thing we offered, but we're trying to expand what we can do," he said.

Smithey says the store plans to expand into offering silver and glass pieces in addition to furniture, and hops to soon start displaying art pieces from Mt. Airy residents and beyond.

"We're looking to invest in artwork," he said. "We've already had conversations with artists and we're hoping to work with local artists to display their work."

Part of the store's ongoing re-opening will include interior renovations, which are planned for early in 2013.

"We're going to look at what is above the drop ceiling and hopefully put in some lighting to offset and highlight artists work," he said. "It's kind of a step-by-step process, so once we get momentum then we'll really get going.

The store's grand re-opening is on Friday, October 5. The store will be open from 12 to 7 p.m.
