Mt. Airy USA Wants to Make Dining Under the Stars Permanent

The organization has begun a fundraising campaign to install permanent furniture in Lovett Park.

Mt. Airy USA has restarted its efforts to revitalize Lovett Park with a month-long fundraising campaign that will hopefully put new tables and chairs in the park—permanently.

Last summer, Mt. Airy USA started a program that brought gourmet food trucks to the park adjacent to the Lovett Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Visitors could have dinner at the food trucks, and then a movie would be shown in the park.

Mt. Airy USA wanted to continue the program this year, but the furniture they purchased last year got worn out and broke.

“Why throw money away on more temporary furnishings?  Why not just go ahead and buy some of the permanent furnishings?” said Elizabeth Moselle, Director of Commercial Revitalization and the Business Association of Mt. Airy at Mt. Airy USA.

So, Mt. Airy USA is “crowd-sourcing” its fundraising efforts.

“We now have two years of success in drawing people to the movies and last summer established that there is a demand for Dining Under the Stars,” said Mt. Airy USA Director Anuj Gupta

Gupta added, “We are very grateful to Valley Green Bank for helping us push this summer’s fundraising to cover the cost of the tables and chairs and we hope that the community can help us fill in the rest.”
