Mt. Airy Parking Lot Underutilized Says BID

The Mt. Airy Business Improvement District wants more people to use a public parking lot located on Carpenter Lane.

Parking on Germantown Avenue is a problem.

Earlier this month, the Mt. Airy Business Improvement District held a public forum on the issue.

Now, the BID wants to draw attention to a free public lot it feels is underutilized.

“I’m not sure a lot of people know they can park in the Germantown Home parking lot after 4:30 p.m.,” said BID director Hollie Malamud-Price.

Located on Carpenter Lane just behind the fire station, home employees use the parking lot during the day, but after 4:30 p.m., it’s free and open to everyone.

“We have a lot of parking problems in the 6700 and 6800 block of Germantown Ave.,” Malamud-Price said.  “There are a lot of businesses that don’t have a high amount of turnover and there are no meters or signs.”

Malamud-Price added, “This just gives people visiting the Avenue another option.”
