Mt. Airy Cafe A Dream Come True

Little Jimmie's Bakery and Cafe has become a neighborhood staple in the year and a half since it opened.

If you blink, you might miss it, but since opening in Dec. 2011, Little Jimmie's Bakery and Cafe has quickly become an area staple.

Owner Jimmie Reed set up the quaint bakery and cafe at 6669 Germantown Ave. in Mt. Airy after he came up with idea working at Chipotle.

While he was busy slinging burritos, he dreamed of running his own business.

First, he began a catering business, but he quickly realized he wanted more.  He wanted his own space.

"If you don’t have the space, you won’t get the foot traffic," said Reed when Jimmie's first opened. "We saw the lease [for this building] one day and we called the number. Once we saw the inside of it, we had to have it."

According to Reed, the building his cafe occupies was built in 1740, and it's one of the oldest free standing one-room schoolhouses left in Pennsylvania.

Little Jimmie's certainly has its fans.  The cafe has a 4.5 star rating on Yelp.

Yelp user Jane W. writes:

"NOT to be disloyal to Highpoint - I do and will always love you, but there is nothing like the joy of finding a fabulous cafe when you thought you knew them all!...Didn't try any pastries but they looked yummy.  Can't wait to go back!!"

Yelp user Ninja K. added:

"I love this spot.  Everyone is friendly and helpful and the baked goods are to die for.   I can't wait for the next big snow storm so I can sit in this cozy cafe and enjoy the delicious sweets while peering out the window."

Little Jimmie's Bakery and Cafe is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Their menu includes a whole range of sandwiches, baked good goods and breakfast items.  They also have vegetarian options.
