Mango Offers Tasty Selection

It is rare that a store leaves customers amazed by its selection without leaving them disgruntled over its prices.

Mango in Chestnut Hill manages to do just that. With unique jewelry and clothing, the shop offers rare merchandise for a more-than-fair price.  

Mango opened its doors on the 8400 block of Germantown Avenue in 1988 and has been standing strong in the Chestnut Hill business district ever since. The store has only three employees, all of whom are family.

Peggy Garvey is the founder of the store, her daughter Tara Alexander is the co-owner, and both work side by side with Peggy's sister, Debbie O'Neill.

The sign hanging outside of the store says it all: "Refreshing Clothing." The slogan is an accurate description of what one will find upon entering Mango.

The business specializes in women's clothing, jewelry, accessories, and "a little bit of everything," Garvey said.

Store employees travel to trade shows to purchase some of their products, but they also buy from local designers and artisans.

The store attracts a wide variety of customers. In an interview at her store Dec. 27, Garvey recalled how she has watched some of her customers grow from 8 years old to college-aged.

Mango has a little something for women of all ages and has built a strong relationship with a majority of its customers. Garvey believes that it is the store's selection of items and its personal service that makes the family-owned business an enjoyable place to shop.
