Iron Hill's soon-to-be-open Chestnut Hill location brewed its very first batch of beer Friday.
In the above pictures, Assistant brewer Derek Testerman and head brewer Paul Rutherford prepare to mash in grains to the mash tun. This is the process of adding water to the grains and holding the grains and water at a certain temperature so that enzymes in the grains can break down starches into sugars. The sugars later become food for the yeast that is added during fermentation.
