Chestnut Hill, Paoli, Riddle Named Top Performer Hospitals

The hospitals were among 620 hospitals recognized by the Joint Commission.

Chestnut Hill Hospital in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli and Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media were named among the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, an accreditor for health care organizations.

They were among 620 hospitals recognized across the country as being top performers. Other hospitals in Philadelphia named to the list were Friends Behavioral Health System and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. In the suburbs Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill also made the list.

“We understand that what matters most to our patients and our community is safe, effective care, and this significant recognition reinforces our commitment to excellence,” said Gary Perecko, president of Riddle Hospital, in an announcement on Media Patch. “I am incredibly proud of the entire Riddle staff for working together to ensure our community has access to superior patient care.”

The report says the 620 hospitals recognized represent about 18 percent of the hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission.

Hospital recognized as top performers met or exceeded 95 percent on a score that took into account the accountability measures reported to the Joint Commission.

A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities to provide the practice. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice – for example, giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients, giving antibiotics one hour before surgery, and providing a home management plan for children with asthma. -According to the Executive Summary of the report

The Joint Commission saw an increase in 50 percent from last year of hospitals achieving this distinction and expects to see the number continue to increase.

I just spent 5 days in Chestnut Hill Hospital, undergoing emergency gall bladder surgery and could not have had a better experience. My doctor was Jessica Santilanno MD, who was one of the most compassionate doctors I have ever met. Her visits post-surgery (4) were not a rush through, but instead, time spent answering my questions. Chestnut Hill has turned the corner in care and is a hospital I will recommend.

I second that advice about not leaving valuables in your car. There are thieves who hang out onRead More Northwestern Ave near Brunos and watch people park and go walk. I locked the car but they jimmied the rubber strip along the door window. My dark purse was on the floor in back. They left the purse and my ID and the cash, hoping that I would not miss my credit cards for a few hours. Luckily, I noticed--but not before they had gone on a wild $1500 shopping spree! The spree started very shortly after I left the car, so I know they had watched me. Creepy....Zeta Cross
