Chestnut Hill Hospital Expansion: What Goes Where

A quick look at the plans for the expansion, which is set to open this fall.

The expansion is , but what will the new section have? According to the hospital's "quick look", the expansion will decrease wait time in the Emergency Department, improve the patient care environment in the Intensive Care Unit, and accommodate new technologies for less invasive surgery.

Chestnut Hill Hospital is in the on the west side of the property.

Ground Floor: Emergency Department (ED)

  • 22 exam rooms
  • large waiting room
  • dedicated X-ray and CT Scan
  • separate walk-in and ambulance entrance
  • The new ED will improve patient privacy, reduce wait times and provide a nicer environment for visitors and families.


First Floor: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

  • 14 individual rooms with private bathrooms
  • waiting room
  • multi-purpose education room
  • The new ICU will improve patient privacy and create a modern and sun-lit department.


Second Floor: Surgical Services

  • Large operating rooms – more than 600 sq. ft. each
  • waiting room
  • first and second stage recovery
  • easy access to the in-patient medical/surgical floor)
  • The new suite will replace 50-year-old, small operating rooms with new, larger operating rooms to accommodate technology for small incision surgery.
