Celebrate Record Store Day in Chestnut Hill

Hideaway Music will be pulling out the stops for its third annual Record Store Day.

Walking into is always an exciting prospect for any music lover and vinylphile. But on this Saturday, April 21, there will be an extra air of prospect for the intense collectors and passive appreciators alike.

Saturday is , a now-annual event that celebrates the independent peddlers of the revived music medium.

“It started as a celebration of the independent record stores, but it started growing, and now they are getting artists and labels and distributors to put out special limited edition items, stuff you can’t get the rest of the year, “ said Brian Reisman, owner of Hideaway. “Things like a red vinyl 45 of a Dylan release, designated just for this day.”

If that sounds like something worth lining up for, you’re not alone, but you’re also, most likely, out of luck. Reisman said that the limited edition lives up to its name.

“When I say ‘limited’, I mean they make 1,000 for the whole country. There was one Grateful Dead item that I ordered four of, and I only got one,” Reisman said.

But even if you come for a limited release and can’t get your hands on it, you won’t leave empty-handed. Beyond the releases, there are freebies like music samplers, key chains and free licorice, and a 20 percent discount on vintage vinyl all day.

There’s even incentive for those who don’t own a record player. Two live performances will be part of Hideaway’s Record Store Day.

The band The Lux will be playing at 1 p.m. and artists Scot Sax, who is doing a Record Store Day tour, performing at a number of independents through the day, will be playing at 2 p.m. at Hideaway. The store will be open usual hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
