Celebrate Record Store Day at Hideaway Music

There are a slew of events planned at the store throughout the day.

Visiting the local, independently owned record store might seem like a plot point in a story your dad would tell you.

They seem like relics from a bygone era.

But this isn’t the truth in Chestnut Hill.  No, Chestnut Hill has its own record store—Hideaway Music.  And Saturday is a big day.

Across the country, record stores will be celebrating the aptly named “National Record Store Day.”

It’s an opportunity for “Mom and Pop” shops like Hideaway to celebrate the independent spirit of the stores and the music itself.

Hideaway will have several events going on throughout the day to celebrate.

Starting at 10 a.m., the store will have several exclusive limited edition vinyl records for sale from artists ranging from Phish to the White Stripes.

Owner Brian Reisman wanted to make clear that the store will not have all of the limited releases, but they will have some of them.  Also, they will be sold on a first come first served basis.

At 12 p.m., the store will host a screening of the documentary “Last Shop Standing: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of The Independent Record Store.”  The documentary tracks the record store industry in the United Kingdom over the last few decades, and covers how it affected both the stores and the music.

At 1:30 p.m., local record enthusiast Thomas Browne will be playing selections from his collection of rare 45s that cover a wide range of genres.

There will also be numerous giveaways from tote bags to posters to CD samplers.
