How Do You Solve Parking Problems on Germantown?

The Mt. Airy BID will host a public forum to discuss parking issues on Germantown Avenue.

The Mt. Airy Business Improvement District will host a public forum on parking on Tuesday, May 14, at 7 p.m., at The Gathering Place located at 6755 Germantown Ave.

The forum will focus on parking challenges in the 6700 and 6800 blocks of Germantown Avenue.

“Parking on those blocks becomes more challenging as the area continues to grow,” said BID director Hollie Malamud-Price.  “We’re trying to find a solution that is beneficial to both the businesses and the residents.”

Malamud-Price said that the problem stems from the businesses on Germantown Avenue not necessarily having a lot of turnover throughout the day, limiting the parking options.

There are no permits, no meters and no lots at that end of the Avenue,” Malamud-Price said.  “We need to figure out how to manage the parking in that area.”

Malamud-Price added, “What you also have is business that don’t necessarily have people coming in and out all day, which frees up parking.”

Malamud-Price also said that this is the first forum like this the BID is hosting, and that she hopes for a good turnout.

“We’re looking for a lot of participation.  Without participation, we won’t be able to find a solution that’s good for everyone.”
