From GeeChee Girl to High Point Cafe, Mt. Airy Restaurants have kept busy this summer.

For most, summer is a slow period.  The heat makes everyone want to do a whole lot of nothing.

Despite the heat, several area restaurants have kept busy this summer.

GeeChee Girl Cafe Honored by Food Network Experience

In July, Mt. Airy's GeeChee Girl Rice Cafe was featured on the popular Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." Owner and chef Valerie Erwin said that host Guy Fieri acts very similar in real life as he does on his show.

High Point Cafe Expands Its Operation

High Point Cafe owner Meg Hagele recently announced that she would be expanding her "empire" to include a wholesale operation based out of a building located at 6700 Germantown Ave.  Hagele is excited to roast her own coffee, and expand her current 100 square feet baking space to a whole building.

Wine Thief a Dream Come True for Owners

Owner Chris Simpson says that the idea for Wine Thief came from the kind of casual-but-nice cafes he and his wife used to frequent when they lived in the trendy Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.  Side Note: Simpson and his wife came up with the name of their restaurant four and a half years before it opened.

New Restaurant a Labor of Love Owner Says

The Trinidadian restaurant Calypso opened in Mt. Airy in June.  Owner, operator Iman Marcano-Sowell opened the restaurant after years of success at the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market
