No Wingstop For 6700 Germantown Ave.

High Point Cafe has plans for a building located at 6700 Germantown Ave. that was originally slated to become a Wingstop.

A building located at 6700 Germantown Ave. that had once been slated to become a Wingstop will now go to High Point Café.

“High Point wants to ramp up their baked goods,” said Mt. Airy USA Executive Director Anuj Gupta.  “They also want to start roasting their own coffee.  The space allows them to do both of those things.”

Mt. Airy USA is the organization that owns the building, and they had originally planned to lease out the building to Richard Johnson who wanted to build a Wingstop franchise.

“His timeline changed,” Gupta said.  “He informed us that it was going to take longer than he thought to get up and running.”

Gupta added, “That building has been vacant for three years now, and we can’t really withstand it being vacant for another year.”

Gupta said that he was sad to see Johnson and Wingstop go.

“It’s very difficult to lease properties in the southern part of Germantown Avenue,” Gupta said.  “And it’s even harder to find tenants willing to make the kind of investment Richard was going to make.”

Gupta added, “I still believe in Richard.  He wanted to create 20 local jobs and an investment of over half a million dollars.  Both goals are worthy and critical.”

Still, Gupta is excited to have the building filled by High Point.

“They haven’t signed a lease yet, but we remain optimistic,” Gupta said.  “Hopefully, the project moves ahead.”
