Mt. Airy Art Garage to Hold Summer Show

The Mt. Airy Art Garage will feature work from artists from all over Northwest Philadelphia all summer.

The Mt. Airy Art Garage invites the public to attend the opening of its "Summer Show Off" on June 28, from 6-8 p.m.

“We try to create programming that will extend our reach in the community,” said Linda Slodki.  “I want to show people that it’s really possible to enrich a community through art."

The "Summer Show Off" will feature art from both member and non-member artists in mediums ranging from painting to sculpture to photography to encaustic.

Encaustic is the process of painting with melted beeswax mixed with pigment.

Slodki started the Mt. Airy Art Garage as a place where artists could come together and form a community.

“A lot of artists feel isolated,” Slodki said.  “But we try to give them a place where they can work together and be inspired by each other.”

Slodki added, "Don’t spend those summer days sweltering. Instead, come to the Art Garage and indulge your creativity. What do you have to lose except boredom?"

The "Summer Show Off" show runs from June 28 until August 30.

The Mt. Airy Art Garage is located at 11 W. Mt. Airy Ave.  Their hours are Thursday-Saturday, 12-6 p.m. and Sunday, 12-5 p.m.

“I wanted it [the art garage] to be a dream factory,” Slodki said.  “I wanted it to be a place where we could build a community, and artists could make connections.”
