Benefit Concert for Saint Paul's Church Restoration

Lucie Daigle, vocalist, and Rich Rudin, composer and pianist, will perform at Saint Paul’s Church, 22 E. Chestnut Hill Avenue, on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the church. The admission donation of $25 will benefit the restoration of this architecturally beautiful and historical church building. The restoration includes extensive roof repairs, stained glass and masonry repairs.

Lucie Daigle is a native French Canadian and sings a haunting rendition of “La Vie en Rose.” “Ah! Edith Piaf” she marvels, “and those beautiful love songs of my French heritage…” Before founding Beau Jazz, a light jazz band, Daigle sang for the local rock band Six Pack. To say she is versatile might be an understatement!

Rich Rudin is founder and director of Maplewood Music Studio with locations in Germantown and Chestnut Hill. He has composed classical music for solo piano, chamber ensembles and orchestra. His works have been performed by Kapelle Trio, Relache, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Additionally, he has 350 jazz and pop compositions to his credit.

Saint Paul’s Church is an architectural landmark in Chestnut Hill. It sits at nearly the highest point in Philadelphia so that the fleche or spire reaches a higher eleva- tion than William Penn’s hat atop City Hall. The campus provides open space with specimen trees at the top of the hill. The grand scale of architecture suggests the reconciling strength of community. The late architect Charles Evers wrote: “Saint Paul’s is an artistic treasure that manifests the work of many of Philadelphia’s best known early 20th century artists and craftsmen.” You won’t want to miss this night of music and song and contribute to the restoration of the architec- turally significant Church of Saint Paul at the same time!
