Stag and Doe Nights Return to Chestnut Hill

The annual holiday tradition resumes Wednesday.

A half-century neighborhood tradition is returning to Chestnut Hill Wednesday night.

The holiday Stag and Doe nights will resume for three Wednesdays in December, starting on Dec 5 and running on the 12 and 19.

While many Germantown Avenue businesses will stay open until 9 p.m. for holiday shoppers, the night is just as much about community as it is about commerce, says Peggy Miller of the Chestnut Hill Business Association.

“It’s been going on for about 50 years, so it’s much more than shopping at this point,” she said. “Families will come out with their kids and walk the street, it’s a real neighborhood happening.”

According to Miller, stores will stay open and offer drinks and food to shoppers, caroling groups and a brass quartet will walk the street singing holiday songs and Santa will be seeing families at the Polar Bear bench.

On Wednesday, Dec 5, the Jenks Choir will be performing carols near the 8300 block of Germantown Avenue from 6 to 7 p.m.
