Guest Chefs Square Off in Cooking Contest

Mt. Airy's "Cooking with Who" fundraiser returns Nov. 8.

The second annual "Cooking with Who" fundraiser returns to Mt. Airy on Nov. 8, and it's brining some local celebrities with it.

The yearly cooking contents and food festival, a joint production of the East. Mt Airy Neighbors, the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, allows residents to taste and vote on a number of different foods prepared by various guest chefs, with a platinum spatula present to which ever chef's dish gets the most votes.

Each group involved has chefs representing them. This year's chef list includes:

  • councilwoman Cindy Bass
  • Professors Dea J. Jayakiran Sebastian, Jon Pahl and Katie Day, representing the LTSP
  • EMAN presiden Kent Reichert, executive director of Mt. Airy USA Anuj Gupta and radio personality Phil Allen, representing EMAN
  • NIM executive director Jane Maloney, NIM early childhood specialist Lissette Rivera and returning winner Rabbi George Stern representing the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement.

Residents can vote for their favorites at the event or in advance online here.

The event will also feature a silent auction, which will include a two-week vacation to Barcelona, a one-hour performance from a concert harpist and a basketball signed by Temple coaches John Chaney and Fran Dunphy.

Cooking with Who? is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brossman Center at the LTSP campus at 7301 Germantown Avenue. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased here. All proceeds go to EMAN, LTSP and NIM.
