Cookie Decorating

  • When: Friday, Dec. 28 from 3 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Where: Night Kitchen Bakery
  • Why Go: Bring the kids by to decorate a Tree Cookie. They get to take home their delicious art pieces. Night Kitchen will match all funds raised which will be donated to the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy disaster relief fund.
  • Cost: $1

Kwanzaa Celebration

  • When: Thursday, Dec. 27 from 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Where: Johnson House, 6306 Germantown Avenue
  • Why Go:  Enjoy African storytelling, drumming, arts and crafts to learn the principles of Kwanzaa.

Folk Dance Friday

  • When: Friday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m.
  • Where: Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill 8855 Germantown Ave
  • Why Go:  Come to Folk Dance on Fridays and make new friends and get some exercise while learning ethnic folk dances from Israel, Greece, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and more. No prior experience and no partner needed. Wear comfortable clothing.

The Philadelphia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble Concert

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m.
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Celebrate the holiday at this special concert featuring The Philadelphia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble with music by O'Carolan, Bach, Mozart and contempory jazz composer Jim Dragoni. The ensemble will be performing the styles of Brazilian Chro, Folkloric , Classical and Jazz. The ensemble is comprised of mandolins, spanish guitar, mandola, mando guitar, mandocello and 12 string guitar. There are two shows, one on SAT then a SUN matinee.  www.emusictime.com.

  • Cost: $15 for church members, $20 for the public in advance, and $25 at the door.

Valley Green Inn New Year's Eve

  • When: Monday, Dec. 31 from 5 - 10 p.m.

  • Why Go: Enjoy a quiet, four-course meal at this bucolic eatery along the Wissahickon Creek near Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy.
  • Cost: $78 per person.

New Year's Eve with the High Rollers

  • When: Monday, Dec. 31 at 8 p.m.
  • Where:Roller's at Flying Fish, 8142 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA
  • Why Go: Spend New Year's Eve in historic Chestnut Hill.  The ticket price of $70 includes: 3 course dinner, dessert, coffee service, and a champagne toast at midnight.  The music will be continuous from 8:00pm until well after the ball drops. Music provided by Reverend Chris & the High Rollers.
  • Cost: $70.00

Holiday Garden Railway

  • When: Now through December 31, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Where: Morris Arboretum, 100 W Northwestern Ave, Chestnut Hill
  • Why Go: Come see the magical miniature world of the garden railway display, lit up and decorated for the holidays. Model trains zip in and out of tunnels and over bridges along the outdoor quarter mile track that runs through the village of historic Philadelphia landmarks.
