Get Out: Full Moon Hike, Gluten Free Day and More

Gluten Free Day

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26 from Noon - 4 p.m.
  • Where: Weavers Way in Chestnut Hill
  • Why Go: All Weavers Way locations will feature this Gluten Free Day with local vendors sampling gluten-free products, Weavers Way wheat-free housemade products, the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness will be there to answer questions and give out information, Chestnut Hill hot bar will feature wheat-free items, raffle baskets of gluten free goodies to benefit the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

  • When: Sunday, Jan. 27 from 2 - 3 p.m.
  • Where: Morris Arboretum
  • Why Go: What today is the Morris Arboretum began as Compton, the summer home and garden of John and Lydia Morris. Who were these founders whose vision and legacy has spanned 125 years? How does the Compton they created nurture our experience? Bob Gutowski, Director of Public Programs and our garden historian will share some images, stories and insights of the people, place and times that shape the Arboretum of today.  Free with admission, however reservations are required and space is limited. Full Moon Hike

  • When:  Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Wissahickon Environmental Center, 300 W. Northwestern Avenue Philadelphia
  • Why Go: Hike in the light of the full moon and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the quiet winter forest. Discover the tree silhouettes against the moonlit sky, listen to the scurrying sounds of nocturnal animals, or maybe hear the hoot of an owl. Warm up around the camp fire with hot chocolate and marshmallows.  Preregistration required.  Ages 6+.

Winter Ice is More Than White

  • When:  Sunday, Jan. 27 from 2 - 3 p.m.
  • Where: The Cedars House, 200 W Northwestern Ave, Philadelphia
  • Why Go: Friends of the Wissahickon Trail Ambassador Bruce Wagner will present a slide show that enhances the many colors of white in photos at The Cedars House on Sunday. Light is reflected and refracted in all manner of direction, and this whimsical exploration of a series of winter pictures shows the colors people often forget to see. The presentation is free and open to the public. Registration is not required but is recommended, as seating is limited

Final-ly Friday

  • When: Friday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.
  • Where: Mt. Airy
  • Why Go: On the last Friday of each month, come out and enjoy fun festivities in a laid back yet vibrant setting in Mt. Airy. Local businesses stay open late and feature special items and events for Final-ly Friday. For a list of specials and events, please visit their website.

ArcheDream for HUMANKIND presents DEEP BLUE

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Sedgwick Theater, 7137 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia
  • Why Go: ArcheDream for HUMANKIND is an international blacklight mask dance/theater troupe based in Philadelphia. DEEP BLUE is ArcheDream’s longest running, globe trotting, and evolving show (since 2004). This visually stunning performance has, puppets, dancing, music, masks, and costumes created by our Philadelphia-based artists, performers and musicians. DEEP BLUE is a captivating show that inspires people of all ages.

Potluck Spectacular and Thank-You Celebration

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26 from 6 - 9 p.m.
  • Where: Mt. Airy Art Garage, 11 W Mt. Airy Ave, Philadelphia
  • Why Go: MAAG will host a potluck spectacular to thank all our members and supporters, and welcome any new faces to the crowd. Come browse the gallery, check out our new studios, mingle with fellow artists and art-lovers, and grab a bite to eat and drink. Join or renew your membership and receive exciting updates for 2013. Most importantly, just come and have a good time.

Public Skate Night

  • When: Friday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m.
  • Where: Wissahickon Skating Club, 550 W Willow Grove Ave, Philadelphia
  • Why Go: Two-hour open ice skate for anyone looking to have some fun on the ice.
  • Cost: $9.00 admission; $1.00 guest card; $3.00 skate rental
