Get Out: The Busiest Weekend in the Northwest

There is a lot happening in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy this weekend. Let this be your primer.

While we here at Patch lack the scientific ability to say this is the busiest weekend in the history of Northwest Philadelphia, it sure seems like it could be.

Here's what's going down. Tell us if we've missed anything.

Whisper Along the Wissahickon

  • When: Friday, October 19 from 5:30 – 9 p.m.
  • Where: Wissahickon Environmental Center, 300 Northwestern Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118
  • Why Go: You must buy your tickets in advance for this family-friendly fall celebration.  Enjoy hayrides, face painting, magic and live music. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume. Your ticket includes food, beverages, beer, and wine. Tickets are limited, so buy your tickets early.
  • Cost: Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children. 

Black & White Gala and Silent Auction

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 7:30 – 11 p.m.
  • Where: Chestnut Hill Hospital, 8835 Germantown Ave.
  • Why Go: Enjoy a night under the stars with big band music, delicious foods and fascinating auction items. Mask and black tie are optional.
  • Cost: $60 for CHCA Members, $65 non-members

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Where: Chestnut Hill Hospital, 8835 Germantown Ave.
  • Why Go:  Help us celebrate the opening of our NEW emergency department. Be one of the the first to see the bright and spacious emergency room and waiting area, technologically advanced operating rooms and family-friendly intensive care unit. Hot dogs, Pizza, Funnel Cake and more! Magic Shows, Jugglers, Face Painting, Inflatable Rides
  • Cost: Free 

Community Barefoot Boogie

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8 – 11 p.m.
  • Where: Philadelphia Dance Theatre 7500 Germantown Ave
  • Why Go: Make new friends and have fun moving!  We have great DJs that get everybody dancing with music from around the world, as well as live drumming; bring a drum if you wish!
  • Cost: $10

Ghosts of the Great Road

  • When: Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.
  • Where: Upsala Mansion 6430 Germantown Ave
  • Why Go: Enjoy - or at least get scared at an interactive ghost walk and live paranormal investigation of Philadelphia's most haunted and historic neighborhood. Grab your ghost hunting gear and join a period dressed guide to learn of the strange and unexplained tales that took place, and still take place along the "Great Road." The tour concludes with a live paranormal investigation inside the Chew House at Cliveden, site of the 1777 Battle of Germantown.
  • Cost: $10

12th Annual Giant Neighborhood Yard Sale

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Where: High Point Cafe 7210 Cresheim Rd, Philadelphia
  • Why Go: Neighbors are selling an array of items including children’s clothes and toys, books, house wares, clothing and much more.  But that's not all that is planned for the day.  Philadelphia Cowshare will be on hand taking orders for their local, hormone free, grass fed beef shares of 1/8 share to a whole cow and local farm stand from Heritage Farm will have the grand finale of their weekly farm stand. There will also be  live music all day, a magic show, and High Point will be offering $5 crepes all day long.

Harvest on Henry

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 1 - 4 p.m.
  • Where: W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences 7100 Henry Ave
  • Why Go: CSA, in conjunction with Weavers Way Co-op and Saul Agricultural High School, will be hosting their second annual Harvest Festival.  It will take place on the farm across the street from the high school in Roxborough.  The gala will feature a broad variety of events and merchandise, including child-centered activities such as: hayrides, veggie car racing, face and pumpkin painting, pumpkin bowling, a cider-pressing demonstration, and even a petting zoo.  There will also be live music, garden workshops, a pie-baking contest, and fare for the hungry and thirsty: produce from the farm, goodies from food trucks, and a repeat of last year's not-to-be-missed cider doughnuts.  Come and support Philly agriculture.
