Construction Causes Limited Access to Northwestern Avenue

As construction workers replace a water main, access to Northwestern Avenue will be limited.

The Friends of the Wissahickon wants the public to know that access to Northwestern Avenue will be limited during the day through August.

Workers from Aqua Pennsylvania are performing a water main replacement along the entire length of the road between Stenton Avenue and Thomas Road.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic will be diverted in order to hurry the construction process, and only local traffic will be allowed through.

The road closure will also limit parking for the Wissahickon Park, and the Friends of the Wissahickon advises that park users access the park a different way.

This is the second project to limit access to parts of the Wissahickon Park this summer.

A project to improve the water quality of the Wissahickon Park has closed the upper parking lot for Valley Green Inn until September.

Park users are urged to bike, walk, or use public transportation to the park, and use alternative parking lots in the Wissahickon.

A more detailed map of the park, trails, and parking areas can be found on Friends of the Wissahickon's new Map of Wissahickon Valley Park (available at www.fow.org/about-park/maps).

For the safety of all park users, Park Rangers will patrol the Park during the length of the project and cars parking in non-designated parking areas in Wissahickon Valley Park will be ticketed because emergency vehicles must have access.
