Norwood-Fontbonne Academy winter athletes recognized

Norwood-Fontbonne Academy’s winter sports season culminated recently with a formal awards assembly recognizing basketball and swim team athletes. Coaches recalled season highlights, each lauding athletes from their respective teams and announcing Most Improved Player award recipients.  “In victory, they were humble, and in defeat, gracious.  Most of all, they had fun with one another, treated their opponents with respect, and grew together as teammates,” recalled the girls’ Varsity basketball coach, Liz Wood, as she recognized her team of seven girls.

Noteworthy season highlights included the boys’ Varsity basketball team who made the post-season playoffs and a number of swimmers who took first place in many events at the Catholic Academy League (CAL) swim meet held in January.  An NFA fourth grader had great success placing first in all 5 of his events: the 5th grade boys’ 100-yard individual medley, 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard butterfly, and 25-yard backstroke.

Norwood-Fontbonne Academy swim coach and 3rd grade teacher, Nick D’Orazio, proudly congratulated one of the swimmers who placed first in all of his events at the Catholic Academy League swim meet held earlier in the year.  “The NFA swimmers were thrilled to practice at LaSalle College High School’s pool to prepare for the meet,” explained Nick.
