Summer Start Up Hits The Streets of Mt. Airy on May 25th
The Business Association of Mt. Airy celebrates Final-ly Friday in Mt Airy with specials inspired by summer.
MT. AIRY – May 15, 2012 – Kick off Memorial Day Weekend with Final-ly Friday In Mt. Airy! On Friday May 25th, the Business Association of Mt. Airy (BAM) will host its monthly event with a decidedly summer spin: Summer Start Up. With a different theme inspiring the specials and events on each Final-ly Friday, visitors and residents alike can return to Mt. Airy’s commercial hubs on the last Friday of every month and look forward to a unique and vibrant affair. “We got off to a great start last month,” says Elizabeth Moselle, Mt. Airy USA Director of Commercial Corridor Revitalization. “Live entertainment drew crowds onto the sidewalks and into the businesses, which is what Final-ly Friday is all about.”
Summery sips and specials will be on hand at businesses throughout the neighborhood. New home brewing supply store Malt House Ltd will set up shop in front of Earth Bread + Brewery – get barbecue ready with glassware and brewing books on sale at the Malt House table, and enjoy a glass of Earth’s housemade Kombucha, on draft outside. Wine Thief Bistro will be unveiling their summer wine list that evening, in addition to offering a special $6 pomegranate martini. Down the street, Avenida Restaurant will be serving pitchers of housemade margaritas and sangria for $20. Get barbeque ready with a sampling of Bill’s Best BBQ at Food For All Market. And don’t miss out on the summer dessert specials! Little Jimmie’s Bakery Café will sell strawberry shortcake cupcakes and other sweet treats at a table in front of Mt. Airy Video Library, and Trolley Car Diner will be giving away free water ices with the purchase of an entrée.
Get ready for those upcoming summer trips! Urban Athlete will host free Urban Athletics workouts at 5:30 and 6:30, so stop in and watch, or try one out! Get and stay beach body ready by following a challenging but results driven workout program with nutritional guidance throughout the entire summer – new members who sign up on Final-ly Friday will receive the 4th month of membership free, so they can stay on track once beach fever is over. Travelers that can’t bring furry family members along on vacation should stop by Queenie’s Pets table in front of Urban Athlete, where they will be giving away coupons for $10 off visit series of $100 or more to new customers. Stick around as a bevy of pet professionals, including trainer CJ Hazell and veterinarian Natasha Kassell, will be on hand for training demonstrations and an open pet care Q &A. Stock up on summer reading at Walk A Crooked Mile Books, where everything in store will be 30% off.
Businesses in Mt. Airy will be joined by nearly a dozen guest vendors and entertainers to kick off the summer months with some festive fun. Add some new seasonal touches to your wardrobe with jewelry from area artisans StitchPrism, Apricot Basket, and Andrea Herbert of Artista Gallery. Get Dad a Father’s Day card (it’s just around the corner!) from Black Heart Letterpress, or stock up on one-of-a-kind gifts for hosts, including prints and cards from B. Torode and Cookie Friends and handmade notebooks from Vintage Vinyl Journals. Nothing Wrong, formerly known as NWX, will play original hits and popular favorites from The Beatles and Amy Winehouse outside Walk A Crooked Mile Books from 7-9 pm.
Enjoy a special sneak preview of St. Mad’s A Mount Airy Home Companion! Look forward to their performance of original songs, parodies of hits, and classic summer jams out on Germantown Avenue. Cap off the evening with a discounted performance of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, presented by Quintessence Theatre Group at the Sedgwick Theater. Adult tickets to the 8 pm show will be $15, half off the regular price.
