Philly Politicians Hail Obama Victory
Mayor Nutter and Rep. Fattah celebrated the president's reelection.
Preceding the ultimate electoral victory for President Barack Obama, Philadelphia lawmakers successfully predicted the president's win. Mayor Michael Nutter and U.S. Reps. Chaka Fattah and Allyson Schwartz hailed the president at the Philadelphia Obama Victory Party, located at the Warwick Hotel in Center City. "We had some voting in the State and in Philly today," Mayor Nutter said to Obama campaign volunteers gathered to celebrate the President. "At least for tonight, blue means joy, happiness and excitement. I love a blue state and a blue city." President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. Fattah Retains 2nd District, Calls for Action
With sources calling a win for Fattah, the representative looks twoard the new year.
Chaka Fattah, the incumbent Democratic representative for the Northwest in the 2nd congressional district, retained his seat in Washington in Tuesday's election, according to the unofficial results from both the city and state's election results websites. Though verified results are not yet in, Fattah, who has served as representative in the House since 1995, appears to have bested Republican candidate Robert Mansfield and Independent James Foster. According to the state's election website, Fattah pulled 89.9 percent of the votes, getting 295,000 votes compared to Mansfield's nearly 25,00 votes. Barack Obama Wins Pennsylvania
Voters in Pennsylvania on Tuesday cast their ballots for Barack Obama, giving the president the state's 20 electoral votes.
Mutliple media outlets are calling President Barack Obama the projected winner of Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for Barack Obama, and since the 1990s, has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race three out of five times. Former Gov. Mitt Romney and Obama campaigned aggressively in Pennsylvania. The state has typically been a Democratic stronghold in recent presidential elections. Romney spent part of Election Day in Pittsburgh and visited Bucks County on Sunday, drawing 25,000 supporters. 5 Unopposed Candidates Win State House Seats
Senators and representatives win election to the General Assembly.
In an election of uncertainties, five Northwest Philadelphia politicians didn't have to sweat it out on Election Day. As the polls close at 8 p.m. in Philadelphia, five lawmakers—who did not face electoral challenges—will won election to Harrisburg. Four will retain their seats, while a fifth will take over the position of retiring John Myers. These pols will represent parts of Roxborough, Manayunk, Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy. All are Democrats. Election Day brought problems at polls in several areas of eastern Pennsylvania
EASTERN PA — Several reports of voting irregularities in Eastern Pennsylvania emerged on Tuesday, the day of the presidential election. In Easton, signs appeared offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to voter fraud convictions. A constable for Easton’s 10th ward removed one such sign staked into the ground after consulting with an elections attorney on site. The Pennsylvania Commercial Action Network, the same group that posted “Replace ObamaCare” billboards around the state, made the signs. ID Requests Many Easton voters also reported poll workers asking for their IDs, even though IDs are not required for this election cycle under the law. As long as they stay 10 feet away, campaign volunteers can be near voting locations.
Mt. Airy residents casting their vote at the Blair Christian Academy on Upsal Street might be greeted by campaign signs as they walk into the school. They also might be greeted by campaign volunteers. When Patch went to Blair Christian Academy at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Obama campaign volunteers were inside the building but outside the polling place, saying that they were there to make sure "voters knew how to vote." While being so close to where people vote might seem against the rules, the Committee of 70 claims otherwise. Update 3:30 p.m.: Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge John M. Younge ruled Tuesday that the all certified minority inspectors and their clerks be allowed into Philadelphia polling places. The order comes after state Republicans alleged that Democrats illegally barred these GOP members from polling places earlier on Election Day.
