Looking for a Great Dog? Duke Would Like Your Attention

Last week we featured King, this week it's Duke. Are you sensing a theme? Our dogs are certainly royalty! Meet Duke who has a lot to say:

"Hey all! My name’s Duke! At the shelter I'm also known by the number A16724495 which is a really long number but there are a lot of other great dogs here like me so I guess they need a BIG number!

I’m looking to be the Duke of someone’s castle! I don't even need a moat ... or a dragon. Really! I’m a young, beautiful (if I do say so myself, the word "stunning" actually comes to mind) auburn colored Terrier/Pit Mix that was brought to the shelter by my previous family.

Yeah I shed a tear at first but I’m not letting it get me down. I've met a lot of great people here while I’m on the hunt for a new family. I'm really looking for someone who's as awesome as me. Seriously I’m an ATHLETE and I LOVE to play fetch! If you don't have a good arm, well maybe I'd think about it but really, you should be able to toss a good ball.

Right now I’m learning how to share my favorite toys which is hard because I LOVE my toys but it's the polite thing to do. I even spent an evening learning to play flyball which is a game where there's a MAGICAL BOX THAT THROWS BALLS (OMG, RIGHT???) and do some agility work which basically involved me just showing off and guess what? I was a superstar! Of course.

Luckily for me, I’ve got my very own best friend at the shelter at the shelter. She is making sure that I practice sitting and waiting for my friends before going through doors, learn to drop a tennis ball when I want to play fetch, and learning to leave high value treats alone when its not time to play. I've heard she's called a "volunteer". I don't know what that means (I hope it's a good thing) but she's like my best friend (so it probably is a good thing).

Me 'n other dogs hang out. I've got a few buds here and I'm even sharing a kennel with a doggie friend right now! He's cool.

So ... when is it you'll be down to the shelter to hang out? When you come I just gotta ask - please bring toys! Kthx!"

Duke is currently paired with a "Pen Pal" volunteer who works with him on a regular basis to teach him basic commands, provide him exercise and help to keep him stress-free and happy while living in the shelter. Want more information on Duke? Email his Pen Pal at bragan.jen@gmail.com for more information or just come on down to the shelter!
