Wine Thief Celebrates Third Birthday
Turnout was large Tuesday night.
Wine Thief celebrated its third ever birthday Tuesday night as a larger-than-usual crowd turned out to commemorate the occasion.
This is the first Tuesday it was open, since Wine Thief is traditionally closed then. But owner Chris Simpson decided to keep the restaurant open seven days a week now, and the third birthday was the date he chose to have it serve food and drinks on Tuesday for the first time.
It was about 7 p.m. when Simpson brought out a cake that read "Happy Birthday Wine Thief." Business around that time, he said, was many times more than he had expected.
"I'm feeling a lot of love from the community," he said.
The three-year milestone is a big one in the restaurant business, according to Simpson.
"If you can survive three years," he said, "you're doing something right."
The restaurant has a new chef, Trevor Elliot, and has been making its own pasta lately. It also has a garden in the back when it is growing some of its own produce.
Elliot has worked at Jake’s in Manayunk and Dettera in Ambler.
