Ye Tally-Ho Shoppe has been closed for some time now, and while sources have said that the store could reopen sometime soon, that hasn't yet happened
The store, which has sold beer, cigarettes, magazines and other items, is one of Mt. Airy's oldest.
Do you think the store should remain open? Or is it better off remaining the way it is? Maybe you think something else should go into the space at 7214 Germantown Ave.
Either way, let us know in the comments section. If anything changes will Tall-Ho, we will let you know.

They should put a Rita's Water Ice in there. That we way Mt Airy is not dominated by the Ice Cream King.

I'd love to see a better use of the space under the same name - a by-the-bottle beer bodega and sandwich shop would be great for the area

I'd like to see it reopen.
I went to Holy Cross grade school in the 1950s and every day after school we'd stop in the Tally-Ho for sodas and TastyKakes.
PS and bring back the Sedgwick Movie theater too!!

How is this even an article? Why didn't the author do some investigating to see if it has changed hands, who the new owners are, what their plans are? A little reporting, guys, jeez.

Totally right. I was hoping to see what people thought about what should go in the location in advance of that. Thanks for the comment.

From the looks of what type of work is going on there, it would appear a bodega is about to open. I just moved here from South Phila. and one of my goals was to enjoy the richness of the Mt.Airy community and its special variety of business offerings. I certainly hope that I am not now seeing less-desirable shops opening on the Ave: bodegas, take-out shops, nail salons, check-cashing, "cheap" child care. These all add to community headaches, safety issues, and lesser home values. As for the Rita's Water Ice, I would welcome a nice water ice/ice cream type offering, but in my expereince, the Rita's 1) have locations in less-desireable areas 2) don't have the best product anyway (and Trolley Car is just down the street). I would rather see either a craft beer type take-out (no 40's, please!) or, better yet, a nice little brunch place. There aren't enough brunch places in Mt. Ariy and it's such a shame.
