Police Blotter: Break-ins Make a Comeback

The following information was supplied by the Philadelphia Police Department. The arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

 

Here's 14th Police District news from the past week or two. All of the following allegations have been documented according to information provided by police:

Items taken during break-in: Police said a laptop and a phone were taken during a break-in on the 1000 block of West Hortter Street Saturday.

Wallet taken: Police said a wallet was taken from on top of a table at a home (where there were a lot of people) on the 6300 block of Germantown Avenue Sunday.

Window opened at home: A man told police he went to check on his neighbor's home on the 500 block of West Allens Lane Friday when he saw a bench near the house and a window open. A jewelry box had been moved, police said, but it was unclear if anything had been taken.

Home broken into: Police said a home on the 200 block of West Allens Lane was broken into through a plexiglass window Saturday but said nothing was taken.

Cell phone taken: Police said a man took a cell phone from someone's bag while they were playing basketball at Mt. Airy Playground Sunday.

CDs, tennis rackets taken: Police said a car was broken into on the 6700 block of Sherman Street and said CDs and tennis rackets were taken Thursday.

Remote trunk switch used in robbery: Police said a remote trunk switch was used in a car robbery on the 700 block of West Sedgwick Street Saturday in which someone broke into a car and used the switch to open the trunk and steal a computer from inside.

Car broken into: Police said a car was broken into on the 6900 block of Chew Avenue March 24 but said nothing was taken.

Home broken into, nothing taken: Police said a home on the 7200 block of Boyer Street was broken into Friday but said nothing was taken.

Screen cut, deadbolt tampered with: A woman told police the screen was cut and her deadbolt was messed with on the 6800 block of Crittenden Street March 28 and said it was clear someone had entered her home but said nothing was taken.

Car taken without permission: A woman told police she and her boyfriend broke up and said he took her car from the 6300 block of Sherman Street March 25 and drove it away without her permission.

Car stolen after person gives a ride: A man told police he gave another man a ride home from a bar in a rented car March 26 and stopped on the way to his home at a store; when he came back, according to police, the person to whom he was giving the ride had taken the car from Chew Avenue and Vernon Road and left.

Car stolen: Police said a 2009 Honda Accord was stolen from the unit block of West Pomona Street sometime either March 26 or 27.

iPhone taken by force by group: Police said a group of men approached another man at Germantown Avenue and Gorgas Lane March 26; one of them told him to give him his iPhone or fight him. The men then took the phone and fled southbound on Germantown Avenue, according to police.
