Police Blotter: Lots of Attempted But Failed Robberies Occur

The following information was supplied by the Philadelphia Police Department. The arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

 

Here's 14th Police District news from the past week or two. All of the following allegations have been documented according to information provided by police:

Car goes missing: A man told police his 2001 Chevy Tahoe went missing on the 6300 block of Germantown Avenue Saturday.

Cell phone taken: Police said a woman left her Android cell phone on the counter at a shop on the 100 block of East Sharpnack Street when she went to the bathroom there May 16; when she returned to get it, it was missing.

Fight results in money being taken: A man told police another man who was with his ex-girlfriend came to his door on the 6300 block of Morton Street and began fighting with him, eventually taking $75 from his pockets on Friday.

Attempted car break-in: Police said a person attempted to break in to a car on the 800 block of North Mt. Pleasant Road last week but said nothing was taken.

Loose change taken from car: Police said loose change was taken from a car parked on the 800 block of Carpenter Lane Friday.

Bike theft attempted: Police said a man attempted to take a bicycle from a garage at a home on the 6700 block of Wissahickon Avenue Friday but said he was interrupted by the homeowner so he ran away.

Man scared off during attempted break-in: Police said a man attempted to break in to a car parked on the 7000 block of Wissahickon Avenue Friday and succeeded in breaking a window but said he was scared off by people nearby.

Computers taken from school locker: Police said two computers were taken from a teacher's locker at Parkway Northwest High School for Peace and Social Justice sometime between May 14 and 16.

iPhone taken on bus: Police said a man's iPhone was snatched from him while he was riding a SEPTA bus at Vernon Road and Chew Avenue Thursday.

$2 taken from car: Police said a car on the 7000 block of Mower Street was broken into Thursday and $2 in cash was taken.

Man attempts to steal from Acme: Police said a man attempted to steal various items from Acme on Germantown Avenue May 16, but when he was confronted by a security officer he ran out of the store, leaving the items.

Mountain bike taken: Police said a locked mountain bike was taken from a garage on the 400 block of East Mt. Airy Avenue May 15.

Car goes missing: Police said a 2005 Ford Explorer went missing from the 6600 block of Musgrave Street May 15.

Windshield broken: Police said a car's windshield was broken on the unit block of East Mt. Airy Avenue May 16.

Student punched on school bus: Police said a student punched another student on a school bus at East Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Stenton Avenue Thursday after they fought over a tie. The school involved will take appropriate action, according to police.

Phone snatched: Police said a man approached a woman at Musgrave Street and Meehan Avenue asking for her number May 15; when she brought out her phone, the man snatched it away and fled, dragging the woman in the process.

GPS taken from car: Police said a GPS was taken from a car that was broken into on the 200 block of West Upsal Street May 14.

In all my years of ACME shopping, I have never seen a Security Guard. Good thing there was one to interrupt the theft.
