Federal judge and West Mt. Airy resident Louis Pollak, 89, died Tuesday at his home.

A Philly.com obituary documents Pollak's life. It says he assisted in writing briefs for the historic Brown v. Board of Education desegregation case and became dean at Yale Law School in 1965.

He became the dean at University of Pennsylvania law school in the 1970s and was appointed to his federal judge post by President Jimmy Carter in 1978.

Many of his law clerks eventually ended up clerking for Supreme Court justices.

Pollak is survived by his wife, five daughters and grandchildren. To read the full obituary, click here.
