A new apartment building is being planned for East Gorgas Lane.

Chris Murray came to an East Mt. Airy Neighbors meeting to discuss the matter on Tuesday. Murray wants to put six apartments inside a gutted building at 343 E. Gorgas Lane.

Her company recently purchased the property after previous owners gutted it but weren't ever able to build there.

Other previous owners weren't able to renovate the property either.

Murray said she wants to build six apartments there. They'd likely be catered toward young professionals. There would be a parking area as well.

There would be two units on each floor.

Murray also owns a rental property on 6531 Germantown Ave.

The EMAN board said it supported the plan, which will go before the city Zoning Board of Adjustment Oct. 23. There will also be a community meeting on the matter.

EMAN Executive Director Elayne Bender praised Murray's company.

"They also have demonstrated a level of commitment to the neighborhood," she said.
